Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should keep away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do improve your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try consuming some eggs to feel better!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods too!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these suggestions instead.
