A great quick plant-based dinner for the whole family to enjoy! Why you'll love this Sesame Tofu: Once the tofu has drained, slice in half then into cubes and place into a large bowl. Sprinkle cornstarch on top and gently toss with your hands to ensure all tofu pieces are covered. In a large skillet, add sesame oil then bring up to medium-high heat.

Instructions to make Jiggly Sesame Tofu:
  1. Mix the katakuriko and cake flour in a bowl and gradually add 100 ml of milk little by little while mixing well to not to create any lumps.
  2. In a blender, blend the water and ground sesame seeds to make the sesame smoother (this step is optional).
  3. Put the kanten powder and Step 2 into a pot and bring to boil for a minute over medium heat while mixing with a whisk. Turn off the heat, add sugar, and dissolve it into the mixture.
  4. Add the remaining 100 ml of milk to Step 3, and heat again. Turn the heat off once it warms up and add Step 1 after mixing it well and quickly.
  5. Heat the mixture from Step 4 over medium heat while mixing, bring to a simmer once it thickens and stir well for 20-30 seconds while taking care not to burn it.
  6. Pour the mixture from Step 5 into a mold, chill it in the refrigerator to harden once it cools to the touch. ( If you keep it in the refrigerator for too long, it will ruin the texture, so be careful.)

Sprinkle cornstarch on top and gently toss with your hands to ensure all tofu pieces are covered. In a large skillet, add sesame oil then bring up to medium-high heat. Once oil is heated up, add the tofu to the skillet and let brown on all sides. In a small bowl combine the soy sauce, water, sesame oil, brown sugar, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame seeds, and cornstarch. Stir until the brown sugar and cornstarch are dissolved, then set the sauce aside.

Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at beating back depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know green tea can help raise your mood too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try these suggestions instead!
