Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
