Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are wonderful at battling depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you wish to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. And now you know green tea can help you be happier also!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
