The ingredients needed to make Halloween Eyeball Calpico Jellies:
- Take 100 ml Undiluted Calpico (Calpis) concentrate
- Prepare 160 ml Water
- Make ready 2 grams Kanten powder
- Prepare 1 Food coloring (black)
- Take 1 Food coloring (blue…or green or whatever color you like)
- Get 1 Grape juice
Float them in cups of grape juice. When this has set, arrange the remaining eyeballs over the jelly. Place the spooky fingers against the side of the bowl. Pour over the remaining jelly and place in the fridge to set.
Steps to make Halloween Eyeball Calpico Jellies:
- I used half-round silicone chocolate molds that I bought in a 100 yen shop (a Japanese dollar store).
- If you don't have molds like this, use any half-round shaped containers you have, such as small sake cups.
- You also need two different sized small round objects that you can make cutouts with, such as these cake decorating tips.
- Combine the water, Calpico concentrate and powdered kanten in a small pan and turn on the heat.
- Heat through while mixing slowly until it's just about to boil. Turn the heat down to low, and simmer for 1 minute to dissolve the kanten.
- Take 40 ml of the jelly liquid out of the pan, and divide into two 20 ml portions.
- Put the remaining jelly liquid, pan and all, in a larger pot full of 175F/80C hot water to prevent it from solidifying.
- Prepare 2 small flat plates. Add black food coloring to one plate and blue (or another color) food coloring to the other one. Add 20 ml of the jelly liquid that you reserved to each plate, and mix rapidly.
- The critical time is when the jelly liquid is still hot! It firms up in no time, so work quickly.
- When the food coloring is dissolved, chill the plates, uncovered, in the refrigerator for about 3 minutes.
- Cut out the iris and pupil parts using the 2 different sized cutouts. Use the small one for the black jelly and the larger one for the colored jelly.
- Once all the irises and pupils are cut out, take the small pan with the white jelly liquid out of the hot water bath.
- Put the black circles in the bottom of the molds, and press down lightly with your finger.
- Add the colored circles on top, and press lightly in the same way to secure the two circles together.
- Add just a little bit of the white jelly liquid to each mold with a spoon, and leave for 3 minutes.
- After 3 minutes add the rest of the white Calpico jelly liquid. Chill and firm up the jellies in the refrigerator, and they're done!
- Pour some grape juice into small tasting glasses, and float an eyeball on top of each one.
- You can also float them in a fruit punch bowl for a party, or pack them in a jar to give as a gift…they'll be even more creepy that way.
- Despite the way they look, they just taste like Calpico jellies - no need to worry.
Place the spooky fingers against the side of the bowl. Pour over the remaining jelly and place in the fridge to set. These super tasty eyeball jello shots are perfect for Halloween or any kind of spooky party. They are sweet and yummy and look just like bloody eye balls. Sprinkle the gelatin on top and whisk it in.
Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods really do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are great at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat a few eggs to feel better!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.
If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you drink green tea. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
