Foods That Make Your Mood Better

For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are terrific at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

Some grains are really wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel famished! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try these tips instead!
