Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

Some grains are truly great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. You digest them faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
