Foods That Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

If you want to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
