Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

Most of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to avoid them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

If you would like to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
