Foods That Make You Happy

A lot of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should avoid them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to fight depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can really bring you down! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you know green tea can help raise your mood also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these tips instead.
