Use Food to Elevate Your Mood
In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. Some foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming a few eggs to jolly up!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
