Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that actually can boost your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating a few eggs to feel better!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to fight depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
